Courses on Project Cycle Management in 2010

Our courses provide comprehensive training for beginners and advances users. They will equip you with the essential skills, tools and good practices from the field to successfully manage projects in development cooperation and humanitarian work. All courses follow a participatory approach based on case studies, with many exercises and facilitated disscusions. This allows teachers and participants to bring in and share their experiences in the group. There are two sets of courses: entry-level core courses, and advanced courses.

Please note that all courses are available in English and French. Ces cours peuvent également être animés en français.

Core training

The entry-level training consists of three five-day courses which cover all steps of the project cycle, from needs assessment, to designing and planning a project, to monitoring its implementation and preparing evaluations. Upon completion of the cycle, participants obtain a Certificate in Project Cycle Management. Each course can also be taken individually as a stand-alone course, which leads to a course certificate.

The three five-day courses are:

- Needs Assessments in Emergency and Rehabilitation situations - Strategies, techniques and tools to prepare and conduct a needs assessment

- Designing and Planning Projects - Mastering fundamental project design skills

- Monitoring and Evaluation - How to prepare and successfully implement a monitoring and evaluation plan
Next course: 11-15 October, Geneva: Early bird fee available until 30 August, registration and payment deadline: 20 September

Advanced courses

Advanced courses are for persons with previous experience in conducting field assessements and at least one year of active work in project management. The focus on all advanced courses is on reviewing, discussing and solving problematic issues, including subjects brought up by the participants.

- Project Cycle Management Compact - Fast-track project management for practitioners (5 days)

The comprehensive five-day course Project Cycle Management Compact provides fast-track training on needs assessment, designing and planning a project, monitoring its implementation and preparing evaluations in a compact format. It is designed for practitioners in project management who have either not yet obtained basic training, or not yet on all subjects of the project cycle.

- Project Planning and Management with Logical Framework Approach - How to design, present and monitor projects with the help of a concise and simple table (3 days)

The log frame provides a logical, practical and transparent project summary for all stakeholders. It has become the de facto standard in project planning. Log frames help to communicate a project outline clearly on one or two sheets of paper and thus facilitates a participatory approach in project management. In this course, in addition to discussing and solving problematic issues related to the use of log frames, a number of valuable tools are introduced.

- Exit Strategies: Effective Programme Disengagement - Achieving programme and project sustainability (2 days)

Before phasing out humanitarian and development programmes or projects, it is crucial to develop a sustainable disengagement strategy to withdraw responsibly. This course focuses on developing and integrating an appropriate strategy and exit plan in project proposal development, developing monitoring and follow-up tools for the implementation of the disengagement plan of action, and to develop a fast-track approach with the involvement of all main stakeholders for programmes or projects which need to be ended within a very short period of time.
